Beginner and intermediate students are invited to join us for this immersive 5-week pottery class designed specifically for middle schoolers. This student-led course combines hand-building and wheel-throwing techniques to support all skill levels.
New students will learn the fundamentals of ceramics, while returning potters can strengthen and expand their skills with individualized guidance. Small class size (max 7) ensures both group instruction and one-on-one support. English and Spanish instruction available.
Up to two makeup classes are allowed due to illness or extenuating circumstances. If you’ll miss more than two sessions, we recommend registering for a future class.
No BASE pass is required to enroll. Contributions above the class fee are tax deductible.

This two part session introduces young artists to the art of assemblage through paper collage. Participants will create a unique, finished piece inside a shadow box using a thoughtfully curated selection of paper elements, textures, and imagery. Led by artist Kate Huston of Tiny Box Worlds, the workshop guides students through layering, cutting, arranging, and composing papers to build depth, balance, and visual interest. The focus is on creativity, exploration, and making intuitive choices, while learning foundational collage techniques in a supportive and inspiring environment.

The class is held in the Big Sky Center for the Arts, 77 Lone Peak Drive. Students can take the bus from Ophir and get dropped off at BASE, then the after-school instructor will walk the kids over to the Art Center. End of the day pick-up is in the art center's youth classroom, entrance on the rear NW corner of the building. Students not riding the bus can also be dropped directly at the classroom at 4 p.m.

Our Spring Break Art Camp invites young artists to explore a variety of art activities inspired by spring, think blooming flowers, bright colors, nature, and fresh ideas. Campers will experiment with different materials and techniques while working on both multi-day projects they can build and refine over time, as well as one-day projects for quick bursts of creative fun. This camp is perfect for encouraging imagination, artistic confidence, and exploration in a supportive environment.

Art Start is an early childhood free art program designed to introduce preschool-aged children to visual learning, creativity, and self-expression. Each session blends interactive story time with a hands-on art activity, allowing children to explore ideas, materials, and artistic concepts in an engaging and age appropriate way.
Through creative play and guided instruction, children build visual literacy, spark their imagination, and develop early skills that support confidence and future academic success. Art Start also emphasizes social and emotional growth by encouraging communication, cooperation, and respect in a warm, supportive environment.
Classes are intentionally small and limited to 10 children. Parent or guardian attendance is required, encouraging shared creativity and support.

Each day, campers will dive into various artists and create their own masterpieces inspired by what they have learned. When food becomes art. Make colorful dips, while learning about color patterns and just as colorful foods with Kate Huston of Tiny Box Worlds. Paint and play with your food while learning about nutrition, color, and the tasty things in life! This class will teach introductory cooking with easy-to-pick-up knife skills, mixing, and blending to make tasty dips. We will learn how to make dye from our food and then how to paint using our new ingredient!

Let your imagination run wild in Creature and Fantasy camp! This magical week is all about dreaming up original creatures, building fantasy worlds, and bringing epic stories to life through art.
Campers will design their own mythical beings, invent detailed backstories, and learn the basics of storyboarding to map out adventures scene by scene. We will play a fast-paced, creative game called Roll for Creature, where the roll of the dice decides a wild combination of features, think wings, horns, scales, or glowing eyes! Students will get to bring their surprise creations to life! Campers will also explore a variety of projects including creating illuminated manuscript inspired art, sculpting dragon eyes, building whimsical fantasy cottages, and designing dramatic fantasy landscapes filled with atmosphere and imagination.

We are going on an artistic adventure around the world in this Travel Around the World camp featuring Rhythm Drums! Campers will explore a new country each day, discovering how culture, history, and traditions inspire art across the globe. From the intricate paper folding of Japan through the art of origami, to vibrant mixed media projects inspired by patterns, symbols, and storytelling through multiple continents, campers will experience a wide variety of artistic styles and techniques.
A special highlight of the week is our visit from Rhythm Drums on July 1st! Campers will participate in an interactive drumming session, learning about rhythm, instruments, and the cultural history behind them in a high-energy day.

Big Sky Arts Council is excited to team up with KGLT Kids for a full week of songwriting, DJing and audio science.
Participants will write and record podcasts and service announcements which will air on 91.9 KGLT. They will also have an opportunity to dive into the world of music by learning the craft of songwriting, DJing and making beats. Our curriculum includes a hands-on science component where campers build a chladni plate and other various projects to model sound behaving like a wave.
We will also build custom instruments. Students can choose to construct either an electric slide guitar, a xylophone or a woodwind instrument. The week will conclude with a performance on Friday. Parents, family and friends are invited to watch as the kids showcase the songs they have written and their new DJ skills.

Creativity meets sustainability in Smart Art: Recycled Art! This week encourages campers to look at everyday materials in a whole new way as they transform reused and natural items into imaginative works of art.
Campers will learn how to repurpose materials that might otherwise be thrown away, discovering how cardboard, paper scraps, packaging, and found objects can become exciting creative tools. Throughout the week, campers will experiment with a variety of projects, including building a collaborative cardboard sculpture as a group, creating textured collage pieces from recycled materials, and designing imaginative constructions from everyday objects. Nature will also be a source of inspiration as campers collect fallen leaves, sticks, and other natural treasures to incorporate into nature-based art.
