Youth Art Classes

All Levels Middle and High School Pottery- 10 weeks

Beginner and Intermediate Middle and High Schoolers are invited to join us for this immersive 10-week pottery course taught by Amy Gitchell. This class caters to all ability levels with mixed methods (hand-building and wheel-throwing) and is a student led approach to ceramics.

Those new to pottery will learn the basics of wheel-throwing, hand-building, decorative treatments and glazing. Experienced potters can brush up on their craft and expand on their existing skill with the guidance of an expert ceramic artist. With a small class size (8 max) students will receive whole group instruction as well as one on one guidance. This class is open to students ages 11-17.

All materials and equipment are provided but participants are invited to use their own tools if desired. Participants in this class also gain access to weekly open studio sessions. Participants must pre-register for the Open Studio at the cost of $20 to secure a space.

If you are going to be absent for more than two classes during the session, you are encouraged to register for a different class or a future class. ONLY TWO classes may be made up due to illness or extenuating circumstances.

There is an additional fee for ceramicists wishing to throw or build more than 10 vessels during the 10-week class. In addition to the class fee, a shelf fee of $30 will be charged if you wish to exceed this limit. Additional clay is available for purchase at the rate of $30/bag.

Participants in Arts Council of Big Sky Classes do NOT need to have a BASE pass to sign up.

Any class payments above the suggested class fee (Take a Class/Give a Class, Help a Neighbor, Sponsor Materials) are tax deductible and will be acknowledged via email for tax purposes.

Big Sky Center for the Arts

Ages 0-6

Art Start is an early childhood free art program designed to introduce preschool-aged children to visual learning, creativity, and self-expression. Each session blends interactive story time with a hands-on art activity, allowing children to explore ideas, materials, and artistic concepts in an engaging and age appropriate way.

Through creative play and guided instruction, children build visual literacy, spark their imagination, and develop early skills that support confidence and future academic success. Art Start also emphasizes social and emotional growth by encouraging communication, cooperation, and respect in a warm, supportive environment.

Classes are intentionally small and limited to 10 children. Parent or guardian attendance is required, encouraging shared creativity and support.
