Public Art Overview

The goal of the Arts Council of Big Sky's Public Art program is to enrich the Big Sky experience by showcasing the artwork of accomplished American artists, particularly regional and local artists of merit.

Public Installations

Since 2016, the Arts Council of Big Sky has become the steward of 14 outdoor sculptures and more than $1.3 million in art assets for our community. The collection consists of artworks donated by artists, private citizens and through generous contributions from businesses and individuals. As our program grows, properly managing and caring for these assets is paramount.

Public Art Trail

As Big Sky grows, we are developing a network of public art installations that connect the community via a public trail system. This public art trail will be an accessible space for gathering and experiencing recreation, culture and fine art. From Ousel Falls to the Community Park and beyond. We hope to add more pollinator gardens along this trail to create a pollinator pathway.

Public Art Map updated version coming soon!

To highlight and promote the importance of the arts in Big Sky, and to encourage appreciation of and engagement with our local arts resources, we have produced a free public art map highlighting sculptures and utility wraps in our community, available throughout Big Sky, and online at our website.

Stop by our office at The Big Sky Center for the Arts in Big Sky's Town Center to pick-up a map or download the map here!

Public Art at BASE

We curate rotating exhibitions at the BASE Art Gallery located in the arts & culture wing at the BASE Community Center to enrich and enliven the facility.

Utility Box Art Wraps

As of 2022, we have facilitated wrapping 42 utility boxes and trash receptacles featuring the work of local and regional artists - including students from across Montana. This is an ongoing project.
