Outreach

The Arts Council incorporates numerous outreach programs designed to reach different sectors of the community. We collaborate with other organizations, including the Big Sky School District, Discovery Academy, Big Sky Community Organization, and many others. Learn about our current outreach programs in our community:

Discover Dance

This annual collaboration with Montana Ballet and the Big Sky School District reaches all second graders, who learn about theater etiquette, dance programming and what it takes to turn a production into reality. Includes classroom sessions and a field trip to Bozeman for a behind-the-scenes look at "The Nutcracker."

Mountainfilm in the Schools

Brings our annual Mountainfilm celebration into the schools with a specially curated screening and corresponding lesson plans for students.

Artist in Residence

Each year, we welcome a culturally rich artist to Big Sky for a multi-day residency in collaboration with the Big Sky School District. Through hands-on workshops, students explore diverse cultures and perspectives through the arts—past mediums have included poetry, dance, music, fashion, and visual art.

In Fall 2024, living artist Jenn Moore Mehmke led the Living Art project with Ophir Elementary students, exploring creativity through movement, music, and clay. Focused on play over product, students created freely with a living material—clay—and connected with each other and their environment.

Huge thanks to the Montana Arts Council, Gallatin Canyon Women’s Club, Big Sky School District, Arts Council of Big Sky, Becca Skinner for photos, and SK Studios for the video.
