Light It Up: Decorating Traditional Paper Lanterns

Instructor: Amy Gitchell
Schedule: Friday, 1:00–3:00 PM
Date: February 13, 2026
Duration: One-day workshop
Location: BASE Art Studio, 285 Simkins Drive

In this hands-on art workshop, students transform traditional paper lanterns into colorful works of art using decoupage, a decorative technique where paper cutouts are layered, adhered to a surface, and sealed for a smooth finished look.

Participants will personalize pre-made lanterns with tissue paper, patterned napkins, and decorative papers while building bold patterns and vibrant designs through this accessible and creative process. Ribbons, fabric, and playful embellishments add the finishing touches, making each lantern uniquely their own.

By the end of the workshop, every student takes home a completed, beautifully decorated lantern ready to light up a room or celebrate a special occasion.

Any payments above the suggested class fee (Take a Class/Give a Class, Help a Neighbor, Sponsor Materials) are tax deductible and will be acknowledged via email for tax purposes.
