Instructor: Micah Rauch, Ether Beetle
Schedule: Saturday, 4:00–6:00 PM
Date: August 15, 2026
Duration: One-day workshop
Location: Big Sky Center for the Arts, 77 Lone Peak Drive
This gouache workshop is centered around curiosity, experimentation, and the simple act of making something from nothing. Participants will explore foundational gouache techniques including layering, color mixing, composition, and expressive mark-making while developing their own creative approach to the medium. Designed for artists of all skill levels, the workshop encourages play, exploration, and letting go of perfection in favor of process and discovery. Through guided exercises and open experimentation, participants will build confidence with gouache while reconnecting with the instinct to create freely.
Led by artist Micah Rauch of Ether Beetle, the workshop draws from a lifelong fascination with storytelling, strange ideas, texture, and wonder. Raised on a small farm outside Wolf Point and shaped by years working in graphic design, illustration, tattooing, and fine art, Micah approaches art-making as both exploration and necessity, a way of carrying ideas from the quiet shadows into the open air.
Whether you are new to gouache or looking to reconnect with a more playful creative practice, this workshop offers a welcoming space to experiment, make mistakes, and discover new possibilities through paint. All materials are provided, and no prior experience is required.
Any class payments above the suggested class fee (Take a Class/Give a Class, Help a Neighbor, Sponsor Materials) are tax deductible and will be acknowledged via email for tax purposes.
