Instructor: Zach Stephens
Schedule: Tuesdays, 6:00–8:00 PM
Date: March 31 – June 2, 2026
Duration: 10-week course
Location: BASE Pottery Studio, 285 Simkins Drive

Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced potters are invited to join Zach Stephens for this immersive 10-week pottery course. This unique class caters to all ability levels with mixed methods including handbuilding and wheel throwing, and a student-led approach to ceramics. We will meet you where you are and help you reach your pottery goals. Community clay is included.

Those new to pottery will learn the basics of wheel throwing, handbuilding, decorative treatments, and glazing. Experienced potters can refine their craft and expand their existing skills with guidance from an expert ceramic artist. With a small class size of eight students maximum, participants receive whole-group instruction as well as one-on-one guidance. This class is open to students ages 11 and up.

All materials and equipment are provided, though participants are welcome to use their own tools if desired. Students in this class also gain access to a weekly Open Studio session on Thursdays. Participants must pre-register for Open Studio at a cost of $20 to secure a space. English and Spanish language instruction is available.

If you anticipate being absent for more than two classes during the session, please consider registering for a different class or a future session. Only two classes may be made up due to illness or extenuating circumstances.

There is an additional fee for ceramicists wishing to throw or build more than 10 vessels during the 10-week class. In addition to the class fee, a $30 shelf fee will be charged if you wish to exceed this limit. Additional clay is available for purchase at $30 per bag.

Participants in Arts Council of Big Sky classes do not need a BASE pass to enroll.

Any class payments above the suggested class fee (Take a Class/Give a Class, Help a Neighbor, Sponsor Materials) are tax deductible and will be acknowledged via email for tax purposes.
