Where are the art classes? Art classes are hosted in the Arts Council Art Studio in the BASE Community Center. The address is 285 Simkins Drive, Big Sky MT 59716. Some classes (like Plein air) may move to an alternative site but will start and end at BASE.
Do I need to be a BASE member to take an art class? NO! The Arts Council’s art classes are offered separately from other BASE programs, so no membership is required. There is also no additional discount for those with BASE memberships.
What do I need to bring to class? Supplies and materials are provided for all core classes, so participants in these classes do not need to bring additional materials. Some speciality workshops require participants to bring their own materials and this information will be available on the individual class descriptions.
What do I wear to class? Pottery and art making in general is messy so please wear clothing that can get clay, paint, etc on it. All pottery class participants must wear closed toe shoes and should not wear excessively loose clothing such as loose sleeves, scarves, or long necklaces. Long hair should be tied back. Aprons are highly recommended! Participants in speciality classes that are hosted outdoors should plan on dressing for the weather.
When can I pick up my artwork? Pottery class participants can pick up their work approximately two weeks after class ends. Your instructor will email you when your artwork is ready to pick up. Shipping can be arranged for an additional fee.
What is the cancellation policy? Cancellations should be requested by emailing julie@bigskyarts.org.Participants must request to cancel their participation in their registered art class no less than 48 hours before the start day of the class in order to receive a 50% refund. Cancellations made less than 48 hours before the start date are not eligible for a refund. However, participants experiencing extenuating circumstances should contact julie@bigskyarts.org.
What is the class transfer policy? Participants wanting to transfer their registration to another class must make their request no less than 48 hours before the start of their currently registered class. Transfers can only be made into classes with available spots that occur after the currently registered class. A $10 transfer fee will be applied to each transfer to offset the associated administration of the transfer. In the case of extenuating circumstances (health or emergencies) for either cancellations or transfers, participants should contact julie@bigskyarts.org.
What if the Arts Council cancels a class? In the unlikely event that the Arts Council needs to cancel a class session or entire class, registered participants will receive an email notifying them as soon as possible. Canceled class sessions will be rescheduled or participants will be offered a full refund. If an entire class or workshop is canceled, it will be rescheduled and participants will be able to attend the rescheduled class or refund their registration fee.
What is the attendance policy? Registered participants are expected to attend the classes they register for. Due to our very small class size, we ask that cancellations be made 48 hours in advance of the class or more so that the space can be filled. Participants who repeatedly do not attend their registered classes may not be able to register for future classes. Please email julie@bigskyarts.org if you need to miss a class.
I just made a donation with my class registration. Is it tax deductible? Any class payments above the suggested class fee (Take a Class/Give a Class, Help a Neighbor, Sponsor Materials) are tax deductible and will be acknowledged via email for tax purposes.
